WeWriWa - August 8, 2015 - Katie's Journey in Old Amarillo

Welcome back to Katie's Journey as we find out what kind of trouble Katie can get into along the trail to Texas and as we've seen . . . it's quite a lot!

Let's jump back onto that log at Michaela Dawson's camp and see what happens next.

With a reassuring pat, Michaela began again, not giving her time to respond. “Don’t worry darlin’. You’ll ride with us into Elizabethtown and I’ll give you a new bag, one that doesn’t smell like a coyote’s dinner. Once we arrive, if you are still of a mind to get to Texas, I’ll buy you a ticket on a railroad and lend you our scout, Johnny Tyler. He’s due to meet us in Elizabethtown tomorrow. That way, I’ll rest easy knowing you made it to your destination safely.”

Katie mumbled an ever-polite thank you as she struggled to keep her eyes open. Michaela led her to a bedroll beside the fire and began to sing. A strange song, Katie thought, as she drifted off to sleep. Something about a colored rose in a place called San Antone.

We're getting down to the nitty gritty -- less than a month before Old Amarillo releases! YAY! I'll be having a book launch and release party, beginning September 3 with the big release and continuing for a full week, with giveaways hosted by those wonderful gals at Loving the Book <3 I'll keep you all updated as we get closer!

Thank you for popping by. Follow this link to get back to the other contributors for the weekly Weekend Writing Warriors bloghop where authors in all phases of publication post eight to ten sentences of the work of their choice and add their link so that readers may enjoy their work. Comments from others are what make this something we all look forward to each week, so feel free to let those fingers fly and tell how you feel about this and all of our snippets!

  1. Michaela is so generous it almost worries me! But the part about the song was fun...great snippet!

  2. Well, she was Texan, they (I can't say we anymore since my family has moved north of the Red River lol) are notorious at giving heheheh I think her mothering instincts may have taken over with this lost little one, as well <3

  3. Even if Michaela's generosity is honest and doesn't come with a price, I suspect that more adventures await our brave heroine. And yeah, drifting off to sleep under the stars with the strange song about a rose...what a great image. :)

    1. Thank you:-) I think we'll hear more from Michaela in the coming snippets . . . a neat side fact is that Michaela Dawson is named for two of my four children -- Michaela for my daughter and Dawson for my middle son :-) Logan, the coyote pop shot -- he is my oldest son. <3 Bitty, he haunts all of my other novels, like Rebekah's Quilt!

  6. Lol - I think I'd like my bag not to smell like a coyote's dinner. That was a perfect little detail.
