On some level, she knew she was on the verge of
tears. They burned in her throat and blurred his already fuzzy face even more
so. “Oh Peter, I miss you already.”
Somewhere nearby, an out-of-place coffee pot
clanged against a rock. Katie could feel herself trying to wake, but fought to stay asleep. To stay with
her Peter. More foggy now, Peter’s fading
face just smiled his trademark patient, knowing smile. “Stay with me,” she
rasped, emotion evident in her throaty words.
Peter’s mouth began to move again, giving rise to
his disjointed and strangely echoing response. “I love you, Katie Knepp. No
matter where you are. I love you.”
