Welcome back to Michaela Dawson's camp on the trail in Old Amarillo (Amish Journeys#1) where Katie is learning some harsh lessons about trail life.
Michaela sobered. “Katie, you feed them and they
associate you with food. How long do you think it’ll take a starvin’ coyote to
figure out a human and the food from a human are the same thing?”
Katie shrugged, feeling supremely ignorant.
Gently, Michaela continued. “In its mind, wouldn’t
take much to make the human the food, way I figure it.”
Michaela’s logic sank like a stone in Katie’s
gut. She began to shake.

I hope Katie can hang around these folks for at least part of her journey. It sounds like she could use a bit of guidance and protection!
ReplyDeleteMe too Christina!! Sweet Katie, getting a taste of the real world...
DeleteI agree with Michaela's logic BUT at the moment she threw the meat, Katie was using it as a distraction, which was smart. Not like she's going to feed them daily. So don't beat her up too badly here, ok? Good snippet....
ReplyDeleteI agree Veronica! I hope Michaela will take pity on her. You know how rough around the edges those cattle women can be :-)
DeleteIt sounds like the only way she's going to survive is if she stays with them. Good scene, Sara!
