3/20/16 -- Katie's Journey (Old Amarillo, Amish Journeys #1) WeWriWa

Welcome back to Katie's journey, from the beginning of Old Amarillo (Amish Journeys #1) which is available now!

To discover other awesome Weekend Writing Warriors, go here!

When we left off, our Amish girl Katie Knepp faced down a pack of hungry coyotes her first night on the trail to Texas before being rescued by Montana-bound Michaela Dawson and her family. Peter Wagler, the love she left behind, appeared in her dreams as she slept. Which brings us up to speed ...

A flash of heat surged in Katie's core as her mind fought to awaken to the newly dawning day. “Peter, if you love me, then why didn’t you ask me to marry you? I might have stayed…for you.” But Peter was gone.

Katie’s eyes fluttered open. Across camp, Michaela was starting breakfast while her two fearless coyote hunters snored from their nearby bedrolls. Homesickness washed over her, a sob catching in
her throat.

Katie turned her back to the happy familial scene and let the salty, cleansing tears soak her cheeks.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you'll pick up your copy of OLD AMARILLO today!

Katie's Journey -- Old Amarillo WEWRIWA - COMING Sept 3!

 Welcome back to the trail!

On some level, she knew she was on the verge of tears. They burned in her throat and blurred his already fuzzy face even more so. “Oh Peter, I miss you already.”
Somewhere nearby, an out-of-place coffee pot clanged against a rock. Katie could feel herself trying to wake, but fought to stay asleep. To stay with her Peter. More foggy now, Peter’s fading face just smiled his trademark patient, knowing smile. “Stay with me,” she rasped, emotion evident in her throaty words.

Peter’s mouth began to move again, giving rise to his disjointed and strangely echoing response. “I love you, Katie Knepp. No matter where you are. I love you.”

The Fourth and Final -- The Journey Home -- Just .99 cents!

The fourth and final installment of the Indian Em'ly Saga is here . . . and just .99 cents! This is by far my favorite of the series, and I hope it will be yours too. Get yours here!

BLURB

Twelve-year-old Knocks Down and his little sister, Cactus Flower, manage to escape the evil orphanage along with a new pale face friend, Kid McCoy. But once they escape, they are set upon by a gang of murdering claim jumpers who steal Cactus and leave Knocks Down for dead.

Determined to find his little sister, Knocks Down gets to the nearest town where they’ve taken her, only to discover she has been sold as a slave! With Kid McCoy’s help, Knocks Down goes after her. Escaping once more, they encounter an old nemesis, a soldier from the nearby fort that was responsible for their mother’s death—and he’s set on seeing Knocks Down and Cactus Flower dead, as well.

How can a boy defeat a battle-hardened soldier? Just when Knocks Down is about to give up, the biggest surprise of all changes everything on THE JOURNEY HOME…

EXCERPT

The day passed quickly and in relative silence until Kid realized something. “Say Chief, where is it we’re headed, anyway?”
I scanned the foreign horizon, an odd feeling suddenly gripping my backbone. “South,” I whispered, “back home, to the land of the Comanche.” Without thinking, I dropped to a crouch and let every sound fade away. Chirping birds, whistling wind, even the breath of Cactus and Kid. Every sound disappeared except the one that had pricked my ear and shot the rash of tingles in the first place.
    “Something has happened nearby.”
Cactus slipped her hand into mine. “I hear it, too. Let’s go.”
Kid scratched his head. “What’d I miss? I don’t hear nothin’.”

By the time we arrived at what was left of the pale face camp, Kid heard it too. The dog’s whimpering had grown louder with each step, and more mournful. There hadn’t been but six people in camp, two of them children, and no survivors. The dog, a hulking black beast with pointed ears, low hips and a long tail, lay by the body of the girl. Whining, he licked her face and nuzzled her hands, as if trying to wake her from a deep sleep.

Without further ado, here we go, back into Michaela Dawson's sleepy camp, on the way to Elizabethtown, Illinois.

His face, fuzzy in its dreamlike state but still handsome as ever, filled her sleep-heavy mind. The blue-eyed dimpled face with the fading scar through the eyebrow, framed by those blonde waves that shone golden in the sunlight whenever he removed his felt hat. Peter. The face she’d hoped to wake to every day for the rest of her life, for as long as God saw fit…her Peter.
If only he had proposed forever. Katie’s heart ached deep in her chest, despite it only being a dream. “Peter,” she whispered, longing pulling at the end of his precious name. “Peter.”

His mouth, upturned at the ends ever so slightly, began to move. “Katie.”

WeWriWa - August 8, 2015 - Katie's Journey in Old Amarillo

Welcome back to Katie's Journey as we find out what kind of trouble Katie can get into along the trail to Texas and as we've seen . . . it's quite a lot!

Let's jump back onto that log at Michaela Dawson's camp and see what happens next.

With a reassuring pat, Michaela began again, not giving her time to respond. “Don’t worry darlin’. You’ll ride with us into Elizabethtown and I’ll give you a new bag, one that doesn’t smell like a coyote’s dinner. Once we arrive, if you are still of a mind to get to Texas, I’ll buy you a ticket on a railroad and lend you our scout, Johnny Tyler. He’s due to meet us in Elizabethtown tomorrow. That way, I’ll rest easy knowing you made it to your destination safely.”

Katie mumbled an ever-polite thank you as she struggled to keep her eyes open. Michaela led her to a bedroll beside the fire and began to sing. A strange song, Katie thought, as she drifted off to sleep. Something about a colored rose in a place called San Antone.

We're getting down to the nitty gritty -- less than a month before Old Amarillo releases! YAY! I'll be having a book launch and release party, beginning September 3 with the big release and continuing for a full week, with giveaways hosted by those wonderful gals at Loving the Book <3 I'll keep you all updated as we get closer!

July 2, 2015 -- Old Amarillo (Amish Journeys #1) -- Katie's Journey

Welcome back to Michaela Dawson's camp on the trail in Old Amarillo (Amish Journeys#1) where Katie is learning some harsh lessons about trail life.

Michaela sobered. “Katie, you feed them and they associate you with food. How long do you think it’ll take a starvin’ coyote to figure out a human and the food from a human are the same thing?”
Katie shrugged, feeling supremely ignorant.
Gently, Michaela continued. “In its mind, wouldn’t take much to make the human the food, way I figure it.”

Michaela’s logic sank like a stone in Katie’s gut. She began to shake.
