The Fourth and Final -- The Journey Home -- Just .99 cents!

The fourth and final installment of the Indian Em'ly Saga is here . . . and just .99 cents! This is by far my favorite of the series, and I hope it will be yours too. Get yours here!

BLURB

Twelve-year-old Knocks Down and his little sister, Cactus Flower, manage to escape the evil orphanage along with a new pale face friend, Kid McCoy. But once they escape, they are set upon by a gang of murdering claim jumpers who steal Cactus and leave Knocks Down for dead.

Determined to find his little sister, Knocks Down gets to the nearest town where they’ve taken her, only to discover she has been sold as a slave! With Kid McCoy’s help, Knocks Down goes after her. Escaping once more, they encounter an old nemesis, a soldier from the nearby fort that was responsible for their mother’s death—and he’s set on seeing Knocks Down and Cactus Flower dead, as well.

How can a boy defeat a battle-hardened soldier? Just when Knocks Down is about to give up, the biggest surprise of all changes everything on THE JOURNEY HOME…

EXCERPT

The day passed quickly and in relative silence until Kid realized something. “Say Chief, where is it we’re headed, anyway?”
I scanned the foreign horizon, an odd feeling suddenly gripping my backbone. “South,” I whispered, “back home, to the land of the Comanche.” Without thinking, I dropped to a crouch and let every sound fade away. Chirping birds, whistling wind, even the breath of Cactus and Kid. Every sound disappeared except the one that had pricked my ear and shot the rash of tingles in the first place.
    “Something has happened nearby.”
Cactus slipped her hand into mine. “I hear it, too. Let’s go.”
Kid scratched his head. “What’d I miss? I don’t hear nothin’.”

By the time we arrived at what was left of the pale face camp, Kid heard it too. The dog’s whimpering had grown louder with each step, and more mournful. There hadn’t been but six people in camp, two of them children, and no survivors. The dog, a hulking black beast with pointed ears, low hips and a long tail, lay by the body of the girl. Whining, he licked her face and nuzzled her hands, as if trying to wake her from a deep sleep.

WeWriWa - August 8, 2015 - Katie's Journey in Old Amarillo

Welcome back to Katie's Journey as we find out what kind of trouble Katie can get into along the trail to Texas and as we've seen . . . it's quite a lot!

Let's jump back onto that log at Michaela Dawson's camp and see what happens next.

With a reassuring pat, Michaela began again, not giving her time to respond. “Don’t worry darlin’. You’ll ride with us into Elizabethtown and I’ll give you a new bag, one that doesn’t smell like a coyote’s dinner. Once we arrive, if you are still of a mind to get to Texas, I’ll buy you a ticket on a railroad and lend you our scout, Johnny Tyler. He’s due to meet us in Elizabethtown tomorrow. That way, I’ll rest easy knowing you made it to your destination safely.”

Katie mumbled an ever-polite thank you as she struggled to keep her eyes open. Michaela led her to a bedroll beside the fire and began to sing. A strange song, Katie thought, as she drifted off to sleep. Something about a colored rose in a place called San Antone.

We're getting down to the nitty gritty -- less than a month before Old Amarillo releases! YAY! I'll be having a book launch and release party, beginning September 3 with the big release and continuing for a full week, with giveaways hosted by those wonderful gals at Loving the Book <3 I'll keep you all updated as we get closer!

WeWriWa - July 26, 2015 - Katie's Journey - Old Amarillo

Welcome back y'all! Last week, we met Michaela Dawson and saw her impact on our timid yet adventuresome Katie Knepp as Katie leaves the Gasthof settlement and heads to Texas  . . .  alone Katie just admitted to flinging her dinner on the trail. Let's see if we can find us a seat on the log and get a helping of gritty beans and see what happens next!

Michaela cocked her head, sending the shadows from the firelight bouncing across her angled features. “Really?”
Katie helped herself to another heaping bite. “When those coyotes surrounded me, right before I saw your camp, I figured they smelled the venison my sister packed for my dinner. So I gave the steaks a fling into the brush and ran.”
Slapping her leg, Michaela let loose with a whoop. “You fed the coyotes? My dear girl, you’re lucky they didn’t eat you alive!”

Katie pondered this and cleaned her plate of the gritty beans. “But they’d already had my steaks, what would they want with me?”

WeWriWa -COVER REVEAL - Katie's Journey in Old Amarillo

Welcome to this week's snippet from OLD AMARILLO and surprise! Here's the brand spankin' new cover! <3

Now, without further ado, where were we last week . . . oh yes, in Michaela Dawson's camp on the trail, complete with coyotes, impending darkness, and gritty beans.

Michaela couldn’t have been much older than her own mother and she had an inviting air about her. With her long almond colored hair tied back in plaits beneath a straw hat and a denim skirt that reached her ankles, Michaela looked the part of an English cattle woman.
Another popping shot, closer this time, sent Katie’s plate of gritty beans into the dirt at her feet. “Oh, I’m so sorry,” she stammered, scrambling to pick up what she could salvage, hear heart pounding in her ears. “I would offer to share my dinner with you to make up for my dropping yours, but I haven’t any left that aren’t crumbs.”
“It’s alright Katie, I’ll get you more,” Michaela said, ladling another helping of beans onto a clean plate. “You seemed mighty hungry, did you drop your dinner on the trail?”
Katie dug into the heap of gritty beans. “No ma’am,” she managed through the mouthful of beans. “I threw it.”

WeWriWa - Old Amarillo - Katie's Journey 7/12/15

Welcome back to Katie's journey in my forthcoming release, Old Amarillo (Amish Journeys #1).  Last week, Katie had burst into Michaela Dawson's camp and enjoyed a pan of gritty beans while politely declining a ride back to her quaint Amish village. Let's see what happens next . . .

Michaela’s eyebrows arched skyward. “Well, best of luck to you, there's a mess of problems down south. If the bank robbers don’t get you, the grippe will.” She chugged a drink from a silver cup. “We’re headed even farther north, to Montana, ourselves . . . we inherited a cattle ranch.” She drained her drink and let the cup dangle between her knees. “We have until the end of the month to claim it, otherwise it goes to the next of kin and that rich old goat wouldn’t know what to do with a cow other than fart around and get himself stepped on.” Shaking her head, Michaela continued. “He’d wind up getting mad at his own incompetence and selling off the whole ranch before he even realized what he had.” She smiled, breaking her tanned face into a freckled mess of weathered wrinkles.

Hello from our new Home-uh!

I have missed the last three weeks of eight-sentence posts and I would like to answer a few of the questions I received via email, right here on my blog!

A sweeping storm coming in from the north
First of all, thank you so much for getting in touch and making me feel missed and loved. <3 We were in the process of moving from our home in the deep recesses of west Texas back to our favorite part of friendly, green, and historic Oklahoma. Thus the reason for my cheeky title -- Oklahoma, our new home-uh . . . get it? :-)

Secondly, we have been here about three weeks and we just were hooked up to internet today. How we managed working just off our phones is a minor miracle, but we survived! It is good to be back online.

Here are a few of the things that have changed in the three weeks since I saw you last . . .

We gained some pets, 17 exactly. All Easter Egger hens, arrived to us two days old. Each one has a name, courtesy of my daughter, who will be raising them. I may hold a contest later to see who can guess them with some creative hints. Right now, they live in a brooder box that Dear Hubby built just for them (we call it Chicken Palace) between the laundry room and the hallway. (The garage was too hot!)
Soon, these two cuties will be joining us, too!

Banana to the left and Carrot to the right. They'll be here in early July to join the brood!

Lastly, eight sentence snippets start again Sunday :-)

Thank you again for all of your support!!
